Serious - I know what you can do with $14.79

TN Andy could tell us if this is a good deal. #10 can of Mountain House Turkey Tetrazzini - 55% off. Noob said it tasted OK. I bought 10 cans. Order before they raise the price, which they do once they hit a certain number sold, from what I've seen before.

One issue - 3-5 weeks for delivery. They have always made good for me and don't charge the CC until it ships.

Bad link, use the one in the next post

Thanks Dude!!!

Those are some good prices as I have been compiling a spreadsheet of what the various sellers of MH are asking (FYI... so far Frugels is lowest for cases and Emergency Essentials for single #10 cans and preparedness.com for the 2 serving paks) but these beal all of them by a good margin
however...
I decided to do a search on Amazon to see what else they had on sale and everything came up with near list prices - evern this item! but when i selected Amazon as the supplier in the left pane - lo and behold they all show sale prices !!!

sorry... Checking my spreadsheet they are the best price on the web on the following #10 cans
Granola with Blueberries & Milk
Turkey Tetrazzini
Vegetable Stew with Beef

but you can come on over when TSHTF and I will share it with ya,,,

here is the link to the vege stew

or just do a search for mountain house on the amazon site - it was on the 2nd page. Their price is about $5 lower than the best price I found elsewhere.

Re: Serious - I know what you can do with $14.79

Got a couple of cans of stew, thanks. Was not the big price cut like the tetrazzini, but free shipping and no tax and 30 year shelf live is not bad. Maybe the wife will stop buying the tuna that we don't eat much and takes over to the food bank. I don't mind giving to charity, but to buy and let the stuff sit to an expiration date is somewhat silly.

30 year shelf life? Wow! So (Noob question) Do you have to keep it in a fridge, or can you leave it on a shelf to keep the life that lnog?

So with Freeze dried foods like that, once you open that can do you have to eat the entire contents, or can you just close the lid and leave it?

*EDIT - Forget it. I found some info.

That's the whole point of these preps - they'll keep almost forever as long as they are unopened, even without refrigeration. However, keep in mind that heat is the enemy of food storage. The lower the temperature you keep the stuff, the longer it will last - it's that simple.

Since you're in Canada, heat shouldn't be the problem it is for me. If you have a cold corner of a basement, that will do it. Just don't store it anywhere that gets hot and stays hot.

Right on. Thanks. You know, I'm new to this entire culture of pre-preparation, so I sometimes ask questions that seem to have blatantly obvious answers to people that have been thinking this way for a while....
If I ask a noob question, it's because I truely don't know what you fellas are talking about.

Freeze-dried food, Water, canned goods and Rice it is then.
I wouldn't know the first thing to do with a stockpile of Wheat or whatever.

Man, I tried to order a stack of cans and no-one will ship to Canada!
I tried Vito and Amazon.
FRIG!

*EDIT - I've contacted them directly, so hopefully they'll have a solution.

Not sure how keen I am on "Used Food", but regardless, I doubt they'll ship to Canada. I hope they have a solution for me by the time I get home tonight.

Ahh - Sorry. My Mistake. One of the sites I tried wouldn't ship to Canada, and the other one wouldn't accept Paypal from Canadian accounts.
Can't remember offhand which was which, but I know Amazon said no-way when I tried to checkout..

The only thing you could do is have product shipped to someone in the USA and they could attempt to ship it to you via the US Mail. Our can products are not currently set up to meet the export label regulations for Canada, so there is a chance the cans could get held up in customs.

It's a good thing I have family in Michigan that I want to go visit in the spring.
